By participating in the MISE – Accordi 2022 development plan, we have developed a new range of semi-finished products in co-extruded sheet intended for thermoforming and paneling processes in PC/ABS and PC, whose composition complies with the regulations of national and international public transport and is strictly halogen free.
The MISE project falls within the CIRCULAR INDUSTRY intervention area in the following areas: Enhancement and life cycle assessment of material and product flows with the use of new alternative raw materials, resource control, tracking and selection of materials (including validated test methods and tools for assessing risks to human health and the environment). The developments and studies that will be the subject of this project are all aimed at expanding the MP3 product range, considering exclusively products considered halogen-free, thus achieving a dual action in the interest of health.
The CARBO project was born with the main objective of developing new and innovative halogen-free PC/ABS products for sectors in which the following standards are in force:
– UL 94, minimum V0
– ECE R 118 Annexes VI, VII, VIII
– EN ISO 44545, R1 and/or R6
Over the course of the project, various prototypes were created to meet the market’s different performance needs, thus enabling the implementation of MP3 Srl’s product portfolio in the following sectors:
- Public transport by road (bus)
- Public transport by rail (trains)
- Automotive
- Luggage, baggage
Achieving fire compliance according to the ECE 118, EN45545-2 and UL94-V0 regulations has allowed us to create semi-finished products with performances that cover the demands of different areas such as Europe, the United States and non-EU countries, thus strengthening our share in the markets where we are already present (e.g. Poland) and opening up the possibility of entering new markets to approach new customers worldwide, particularly North African countries and the Middle East.
The CARBO product we have made in halogen-free PC/ABS is a co-extruded sheet of 4 or 5 layers produced in an extrusion plant suitable for handling these materials, and which therefore respects surface quality parameters, flame resistance parameters, mechanical parameters and light stability parameters.
As part of the project, a prototype was also developed for a sheet that, through the application of a lacquer coating, can have antimicrobial, anti-scratch, flame-retardant, anti-slip, and anti-fingerprint properties in flat and/or thermoformable products.
The CARBO line consists of several products that meet the above standards in different ways and are suitable for the various sectors where fire safety is required. The product range specifically consists of CARBO RL, CARBO VO OPC WR, SHIELD 300, BS OP WR, Acrycarbo QX, and CARBO BS CH OP WR, allowing us to expand our portfolio and develop a new industrial sector.
